George Bush: The Unsuccessful Fascist

Looking at the results of the USA midterm elections I found myself wondering whether Bush is still Hitler? I mean Hitler was not in the habit of losing elections. (In fact, as David Janes pointed out to me on the weekend, he was in the habit of holding plebiscites on a whole variety of things and letting them run fairly. He just wasn't in the habit of letting anyone vote on his tenure as the top dog.) What kind of Nazi lets the other side win? Is he so stupid that he can't even be a good dictator? That freaking moron! Where the hell was Karl Rove?

Apparently, I am not the only one asking these questions. Jim Treacher is all over it. Here is one of the comments to Treacher's post:

I am pretty surprised myself. I thought we were supposed to be running a highly efficient fascist regime here. And now, we can't even win an election? I mean, I've read all the research. What happened with suspending the electoral process? Why is constitution still in effect? What about our plans to declare martial law? Suspend Congress? We are doing none of it. And I was looking forward to coronation, too. :( Bummer.

Crazy like a crazy guy

Some anti-Bush Democrats are, just before the election, losing their minds (via Bourque):

Bin Laden costume and toy gun bring arrest

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- The lawyer who divulged President Bush's drunken-driving arrest days before the 2000 election was arrested at gunpoint yesterday after he was seen on a highway construction site carrying a toy gun while dressed in an Osama bin Laden costume.

Tom Connolly, 49, of Scarborough, was charged with criminal threatening after he stood at the site visible to commuters on Interstate 295 while wearing the Halloween costume and waving a sign.

Police officers responding to motorists' calls found a man wearing a white robe and carrying a fake assault rifle.

Before he was arrested, Connolly walked toward officers as what appeared to be plastic grenades tumbled onto the ground, an officer said. The costume included plastic dynamite, grenades, and a replica AK-47 rifle.

"The whole thing is just incredibly bizarre," said South Portland Police Chief Ed Googins. "It just crossed the line."

Connolly, who was the Democratic nominee for governor in 1998, met with reporters briefly after posting $500 cash bail to secure his release from the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. He said his case is scheduled for December and he intends to plead not guilty.

"There was a First Amendment this morning when I woke up. I don't know how it evaporated with the dawn," said Connolly, who drew national attention when he was identified as the Democrat who tipped off the media to Bush's 1976 drunken-driving arrest in Kennebunkport.

Connolly has been known for wearing costumes to make political statements, typically donning a Bush mask and dancing for passing motorists

Pakistan Army Bombs Terrorist Training Camp: Bush to blame

The logic of this is ...well....illogical:

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistani helicopter gunships yesterday destroyed a religious school that the military said was fronting as an al Qaeda training camp, killing 80 persons in the country's deadliest military operation targeting terrorism suspects.
Islamic leaders and al Qaeda-linked militants blamed the United States for the air strike and called for nationwide demonstrations to condemn the attack that flattened the school -- known as a madrassa -- and ripped apart those inside. Furious villagers and religious leaders said the pre-dawn missile barrage killed innocent students and teachers.
U.S. and Pakistani military officials denied American involvement.

Pakistani helicopters... admission by Pakistan military officials ... USA to blame. It appears that there is no difference between Islamic leaders and the US left.

Dear Canada, Grow Up.

There is little that is more juvenille than faux offence. The big stories in the Globe and Mail today:

 1. Canada complains to White House about ad

Canadian Press

OTTAWA — The Canadian government has lodged a complaint with the Bush administration over a Republican election ad that belittles Canada as a global freeloader.

You can read the comments by the highly offended Canadians here. What a tribe.

2. MacKay's fresh denials escalate 'dog' uproar

Speaker reluctantly launches new probe as Liberals continue to demand apology

This is the heights of ridiculous. Clearly no-one watched the ad which is more a version of Talking to Americans than anything that is serious. Here is a link for those of you who want to actually watch it (via Instapundit). We run shows insulting Americans, our elected representatives call the Yanks to the dirt. Jack Layton has turned the name George Bush into both a full political argument and an insult of massive proportion. It is like the Monty Python Skit: I can think of nothing more insulting than Belgian.

Belinda Stronach? Dog? The question that gave rise to the alleged response or nonresponse had something to do with cleaning up the environment for the sake of the domestic animals or some such nonsense. When asked if he cared about his dog, MacKay allegedly pointed at Stronach's empty chair and replied that the Liberals already had her. That is funny. Sure it shows the MacKay trademark lack of judgement, but it is funny none the less.

Stronach left MacKay's bed on national TV, leaving the poor sap to have to explain his feelings to the nation. He is from Pictou, not Toronto. It had to be tough. Stronch then jumps into bed with a married hockey player and gets named in the no-fault divorce as the home wrecker. Now she is insulted and the Liberals, in typical Liberal fashion, are claiming that all women everywhere are insulted. That may have worked for Sheila Copps, but if you are making a voting decision based on this exchange, you should probably stay home from the polls. Stronach would have gained more support if she had of shrugged it off or had a laugh. No, she is offended. She is some sort of victim. She made reference to Conservative cuts to some status of women's group funding as evidence that the Tories are about to impose restrictions on women's rights. No wonder MacKay called her a dog, (or didn't, or made a funny at her expense, or at the expense of all women or whatever it all stands for) the Conservatives hate women. Or do they hate dogs? It's hard to keep it straight.

In any event, the good women of Canada who were insulted by the dog comment/noncomment  can start leaving their comments here.

The insulted dogs of Canada can also leave their comments here.

My response to you all will be Grow Up.
