53% of Quebecers, 47% of english Canada consider themselves racist. The remainder are simply bigots.
Fifty-nine per cent of Quebecers admit to being racist to some degree, according to a Léger Marketing survey published Monday in Le Journal de Montréal.
In comparison, only 47 per cent of those outside of Quebec say they are racist to some degree. One per cent of Quebecers surveyed said they were very racist, 15 per cent said moderately racist and 43 per cent responded that they were mildly racist.
While some claim to be shocked, you have to be either:
- living in the world of the NDP where your bigotry is as against Christians, Americans, Israel and rural white people and therefore not bigotry but dinner party acceptable views; or
- living as a shut in,
not to realize that there is some truth to this. How often do we honestly hear disparaging remarks against jews in the normal course of private conversation? How often do you hear the word nigger? Be honest.
Speaking of honesty, the anti-racism lobby adopts the same stand as the global warming zealots and the anti-smoking zealots: there is no benefit in any study that does not help their particualr cause:
Jedwab, who's the executive director of the Montreal-based Association of Canadian Studies, said it's dangerous to have a survey that shows such a high level of racism.
"It will lead people to say, 'Let's face it, everyone's racist,'" he told CBC News Online. "They'll think it's to be expected. That will minimize the resolve to combat this problem of racism that needs to be addressed."
The only way to come to a solution, if indeed there is such a thing, is to have an honest debate. The numbers reflect what they do for probably a whole host of reasons, but a significant reason is that the poll is anonymous and that tosses political correctness out the door and allows the honest answer.
